Ride Your Bike To Work Day
May 16, 2008
Despite the rain today, it is Ride Your Bike To Work Day today in Philadelphia (and I believe all over the US)… Our very own mayor is leading by example (and also did last year), in an effort to get others to follow… So, if it’s not raining by you, hope on your bike and get movin’! Unfortunately, I have a 20 mile commute to work (which involves going across states on highways which are NOT bike-friendly), so I won’t be able to participate, but for those of you who can (and are having non-rainy weather), go for it!
Hope you all have a happy Friday! I’ll be back mid-afternoon w/ breakfast, snack, & lunch postings… “See ya” then!

I love this idea! We had ours back in April, but it snowed!!! Grr… I’ll ride my bike today just for the fun of it though. =)
Same here – I wish I was close enough for that to be an option! Unfortunately it’d probably take me roughly 2 hours and I work at 7, so there’s no way I’m getting up at 3:30 and leaving at 5! nope!
If I had a bike, and a job, I’d totally bike to work
haha
I stuck you on my blogroll! I love your cute blog
Romina ~ Aww that stinks… I wish I could go for a bike ride today but too rainy out
Ughh…
Melissa ~ haha, same here, although I never thought about it like that, that would be an insanely long bike ride each way!
linds ~ hahaha, you are too cute! I <3 your blog too!!! Thanks
Yeah, with the storms today, I’d never make it if I had to bike to work, haha.
Enjoy your Friday!!!
It was raining here this morning too today- I was very much considering riding my bike but then I realized that I don’t think the tires are pumped up. So I just walked to work like usual instead (I prefer walking anyways).
Hi. Please join the Bicycle to Work! LinkedIn networking group. Members pledge that they will try to ride their bicycle to work or on an errand at least once a week. Although the benefits should be obvious, let me outline them here.
Right now people in the industrialized world are facing two very grave problems: obesity and a growing scarcity of oil. Compounding this problem is the new food shortage brought about, in part, by the conversion of food cropland to bio-fuel crop production. Most people feel powerless to help, but there is one thing that we can do. Ride our bicycles to work.
If everyone would agree to ride their bikes to work one day per week we could cut oil consumption by as much as 10-15%. No one would argue that riding a bike burns more calories than driving the car. Although popular politically right now, most bio-fuels consume more energy than they produce. We would be much better to eat those bio-crops then use our own energy to transport us around.
So spread the word. Make it a movement! Bicycle to work one day a week and do your part to cut back obesity and the overuse of oil and precious cropland.
