Taste Test

May 18, 2008

This afternoon, as my appetite was slowly returning, I decided to try one of the pumpkin scones that I had made on Friday since I couldn’t really provide a recipe without letting you know my thoughts on its taste!

I’m still really mad at myself for letting the top get burnt, but besides that I think these are my favorite baked treats yet… they aren’t traditional scones, so if you’re looking for something like that, I’d say to attempt the scones I made last week instead, they are really crumbly & dry, unlike these… I’d say that the moist-ness of these can’t be avoided simply because of the all-star ingredient… PUMPKIN (and of course it’s best friend:  cinnamon)!  However, these are definitely delicious and remind me exactly of Thanksgiving… weird I know, since we are approaching the summer, but who says certain flavors are only for certain seasons?  Not me!

For my serving, I covered up the burnt top with some cinnamon raisin pb :)   I was trying to save the “un-burnt” ones for my family who LOVES these… I loved the pairing of peanut butter w/ the pumpkin… such a wonderful combination!

Ok, now back to the cleaning, schoolwork, & wedding stuff I have all on my to-do list!

The scones still look perfect to me, burnt-top or not; and I LOVE how you enjoyed it with the cinnamon-raisin p.b. – yum!

Yum – cinnamon raisin PB is perfect for those scones! They look awesome, and you’re so right – there’s no “season” for pumpkin, it’s good anytime!

mmm I can’t wait to try these…do you think any light margarine will work? Also- I know you’re a fan of the clif z-bars.. they don’t make these in canada but my lovely boyfriend offered to bring me some up from boston…what flavours are your favourite? also, are the clif mini bars the same as regular clif bars but smaller?? i might get him to bring me some of those too. which is better- z bars or the mini clif bars?? thanks for your opinions!! :)

linds ~ Hi :) Oh yeah, I think any light margarine will be just fine!

I LOVE the clif Z bars :) The only flavors we have in our area are chocolate brownie (my absolute favorite), chocolate chip (1st unner up), and peanut butter (2nd runner up)… I hear some areas have honey graham which are also good, but I have yet to find/try them!

The Clif mini bars are the same exact thing as the full sized bars but I estimate 40% of the size of the full sized bars… I can’t really tell you which ones i like better because I like both just as equally! However, I will tell you that I use the Clif mini bars as a pre-workout snack (they have 2 g protein more than z bars)… and the Z bars as a regular mid-am/pm snack in between meals OR as dessert… hope that helps! Let me know when you get them if you like them!!!
