Ballpark Eats

August 7, 2008

Our night at the Phils game was a blast… we had 5 tickets so Bill, myself, my parents, and our friend came with us… We started out the night with a bang because I decided to switch up and get something different to eat than what I normally do!  I always get Bull’s BBQ Pulled Pork and although Bill and my dad are fans, my mom is not a huge meat eater so her and I ventured around since I was reminded that PETA & Food Network have given Citizen’s Bank Park awards for both veggie-friendly and delicious eats…

Well, now I know what they are talking about… My mom and I stumbled upon Planet Hoagie which featured a veggie wrap with eggplant, broccoli rabe, smoked provolone, and roasted red peppers… we thought it sounded good, but when we actually sat down to eat it, it wasn’t good… it was OUT OF THIS WORLD!!!!!!  It was seriously the best veggie hoagie I’ve ever eaten!  My mom and I just sat there in between bites talking about how yummy this was!  It was actually really filling too and we each only ate 2/3rds of the wrap and gave our leftovers to my dad who inhaled them :)   I split the container of pickles with Bill…

Of course, we also all shared some Chickie’s and Pete’s crab fries… I probably ate 1/4 of our serving because it was shared between the four of us… Our friend ordered his own!!  This is a bad picture, so I apologize!

When I got home, it was late and I was in the mood for something sweet, but definitely not hungry, so I had one of these Ghiradelli dark chocolate squares… i rationalized it with the fact that dark chocolate is good for me :-D

And just for fun, I thought I’d post some pictures from the game last night… here’s my boy Chase Ultley up to bat (I have his jersey!)…

And of course, the ultra-loveable Phillies Phanatic…

Oh and PS… The Phillies kicked the Marlins butts… 5-0!

Hahah that game looks like fun. I’m loving the crazy (and completely bizarre…) mascot they’ve got going on there!

Love the looks of that wrap too, everything in it looks completely delicious. Seems like one of those foods I would be yumming between every bite with as well.

Wow, that vegetable hoagie does look like something out of this world – in a delicious, get-that-on-my-plate right now kind of way!

Glad you had fun at the game!

You always make me nostalgic for my days in Philly. I went there when it first opened. It was such a nice new park with tons of food options. Glad you had fun.

Yum- that wrap looks so yummy! The last time I went to Citizens Bank Park, I almost went to Planet Hoagie because all of their sandwiches sounded soooo good, but I ended up going to Rick’s (I think it’s right next door to Planet Hoagie) and got a vegetarian cheesesteak with TVP, provolone, peppers, and onions… it was amazing! I love that they offer so many healthy options at CBP!

GO PHILS! Too bad they lost today. :-(

Red pepper and eggplant…. sounds amazing. I love broccoli rabe too, but would never think to pair it with the classic eggplant/pepper combo… .hum… was it overpowering?
