World Series Wednesday

October 29, 2008

Brrrr!  It’s a chilly one out there.  Luckily no rain here today, but the wind is a killer!

I woke up chilly so I knew that I had to have a comforting bowl of oats :)   I used 1/3 cup oats, cinnamon, 2 egg whites (for extra protein punch), and 1/4 cup cranberries… stirred it around… and popped it in the microwave for 2.5 minutes.  Once it was done, I stirred it up, topped it with 1 tbsp of ground flax and a tbsp of pumpkin seeds, aka pepitas.  It was delish… I am loving the tartness of the cranberries in my morning bowl of oats, combined with a cup of pumpkin spice coffee – yum – what a way to wake up!

I thought this breakfast would have held me over for a long time due to the extra protein but it didn’t seem to work as well as the whey isolate protein powder did yesterday.  I snacked on an apple & some Barney Butter Chunky.  I actually used a plastic knife (difficult!) to slice it up, popped it in the microwave for 30 seconds and then spread the almond butter on top.  This way, it kept me warm since it was freezing in my office.

Lunch was the last of the veggie soup with a serving of Kashi TLC Honey Sesame crackers.  I love having warm foods at lunch during the “winter”… I feel weird saying that because it’s not even Halloween yet!  I brought in donuts & bagels for a coworkers birthday toda and almost contemplating swapping out my kashi crackers for half a bagel, but decided I was in a crunch mode instead of a chew mode…

However I did dip into the office candy jar and ate 6 or 7 candy corn pumpkins.  I have been craving them for a long time so they were wonderfully sugary AND fake.  After I ate them, I didn’t feel so hot :)

I was ecstatic for “snack time” in the afternoon because I packed the new Iced Gingerbread Clif bar.  For those of you asking where I found them at, I stumbled upon a little display of them in my Giant supermarket.  I had half around 3pm and then the other half at 5pm right before my workout began.  Honestly, the pumpkin pie spice flavor is where it’s at, but this one wasn’t too bad.  It reminded me of some other bar but for the time being I’m drawing a blank!  I think it might remind me of the Gingersnap Larabar – I’m not a huge fan of ginger but I love gingerbread cookies or ginger snaps – go figure :)   Each bite was filled with cinnamon, ginger, pecans, raisins, and icing though!

When I got to the gym, I did the following:
- 3 sets of 8 pull-ups
- 3 sets of 12 shoulder presses (using 10 lb. dumbbells)
- 3 sets of 12 chest presses (using 10 lb. dumbbells)
- 3 sets of 12 dumbbell curls (using 10 lb. dumbbells)

Then it was time for kickboxing… I got a great, sweaty, heart-pumpkin workout in, but I think it might be time to upgrade my 1lb. weighted gloves to 2 lb. weighted gloves as I’m not feeling the burn AS MUCH in my arms.

Dinner was super easy tonight:  I just heated up our leftover enchiladas from the other night and made an extra serving of veggies for me.  If you find yourself not being able to fit in both the gym AND time to cook dinner, I highly recommend meal planning & prepping.  It has become my savior lately!  When I have time to cook on the weekends, I will make enough for 4 servings, instead of just 2 and portion our servings on reheatable plates, so that way later in the week, I already have a dinner ready to go on our late gym nights.  Tonight was such a night.  The enchiladas were another hit in our house and tasted just as good as they did when we first had them.  I can’t wait to experiment more with this easy recipe.

Now it’s finally off to watch the LAST World Series game, yes I said LAST hehe.  I’m slightly irritated that the pre-game commentary was delayed due to the $3 million dollar ad being aired, so hopefully the Phils make up for it and pull through during the last 3.5 innings remaining :)   We have some multigrain chips & salsa prepared so we might break that out in a bit!

Since halloween is so near, what are ya’ll doing for the “holiday”?  We had not one but two Halloween parties (fri + sat) that should keep us busy.  I’m keeping our costume idea under wraps though until the weekend and then I’ll post pics!
