Mornin’

December 21, 2008

Good morning all :) Hope you had a great Saturday! I started out the day bright and early since we had to be out of our house by 8am in order to get Bill’s mom, head to my parents, and then drive to the train station…

After my layers of clothing were put on, I had a big ol’ cup of coffee… If you are wondering how I am dressing to go to NYC, it is as follows… you may find it humorous…

  • Long underwear top
  • 2 long sleeved stretch tee
  • White thick turtleneck
  • White sweatercoat
  • Long underwear bottoms
  • 2 pairs of leggings
  • Jeans
  • Three pairs of socks
  • My fake Uggs

All topped off with my Columbia jacket, gloves, scarf, and ear muffs. Yes, to look at me, it would appear that I am traveling from Hawaii to NYC and never have seen snow before; however, I hate the cold, despite having grown up in Philadelphia all of my life. Granted I love the distinct change of seasons, so I could never move, but still. I want to be prepared for spending the entire day walking around outside!

My breakfast was simply beautiful! It consisted of an oatmeal base and I used a TON of toppings! I wanted to make sure it kept me full for a while… I topped this bowl with Bear Naked Fruit ‘n Nut granola (my free sample), fiber one, pom seeds, brown sugar, and flax, of course!

We got to the city around 11 and walked around for a bit, then everyone decided it was time for lunch, so we stopped at the Bread Factory Cafe, which Bill and I stumbled upon a few months ago… I was COLD, so I decided on a cup of vegetable soup and half an avocado and sprout sandwich on wheat… The soup was FILLED with an assortment of amazing vegetables: zucchini, corn, potatoes, string beans, carrots, celery, lentils, kidney beans, etc! The sandwich was also really refreshing and delicious, as well!

We wound up walking around Rockefeller Center for a while – we had to check out the tree!

pc200664

After checking out the tree and such, we went into the classic NYC city stores, for us anyway: M&M shop & Hershey shop!

Our show started at 2:30, so we got into the Ambassador theater around 2 and settled in. I had a bar that my mom packed: Fiber One Oats and Chocolate…

pc200679

The show was absolutely AMAZING!!!!!!!! I really think it tops my favorite list of all the shows I’ve seen on Broadway… the singing, the dancing, everything – it was so high-energy and amazing :)

After the show, we darted down to Carmine’s for dinner… We put our name in at 5pm, and didn’t get seated until 7:30! Oh well, we had a lot of fun meeting new people while we waited and just talked about the entire day thus far…

Here’s the menu…

pc200685

When we were seated, I had a coffee and water to warm me up…

pc200688

To start, we all split an order of the Carmine’s salad which was a mixed green salad topped with roasted tomatoes, cheeses, and assorted meat…

pc200690

For our entrees, we ordered the chicken parm (SO GOOD!) and I topped mine with extra sauce… I also had a piece of garlic onion bread with it…

pc200691

Our second entree was the pasta special of the day… it consisted of bow-tie pasta, asparagus, olives, roasted red peppers, chicken, and mushrooms (I picked them out – yuck)… It was really flavorful… I didn’t pay complete attention to the description of the dish so when I tried it, I really loved it… I would guess that it was cooked in a garlic white wine sauce – I loved the taste :)

pc200696

At the end of dinner, my mom asked me if I wanted to split a piece of this bread with her, so I couldn’t resist :)

pc200697

Then, we were on our way back to the train around 9′ish… Bill spotted the nut stand, so he HAD to stop… he loves them and looks forward to them every time we go to NYC… I had a few of them, but my hands were covered in my gloves so he poured them in his hand and I took a picture and then he popped them all into my mouth :)

pc200704

All in all, it was a fantastic day! I think everyone had a great time and I can’t wait until next year to go back :)

It looks like you had so much fun! I know a lot of people are jealous of the weather we’re having in FL, but seriously I would LOVE to spend this week up north with snow and such instead of the 70-80 degree weather we’re having. Gosh, at this point I’d be content with Christmas in the 60s!

Haha, random question – with all those layers on, do you have a special pair of winter jeans that’s like a size bigger or something? I was just wondering because as I was reading, I was thinking I don’t know if I’d fit in my jeans with all those layers!

  11. December 21, 2008 4:32 pm

hhaahahahah~~ that is a tremendous amount of layers but i would totally be the samE!!! i wanna see pictures…all i can see you as is frankie’s brother from the christmas story. LOL.

I’m glad you had such a fun day in NYC!!!

LOL, I hear you on the cold… I grew up in Philly and I LOATHE the cold… I’d pack up and move to CA in a heartbeat if I could!!! :-D

  16. December 21, 2008 9:35 pm

Sounds like a fun day! Is it that much colder in NYC than Philly?

No it’s about the same temperature! But since we were walking around outside all day I needed to dress warm – I did the same thing last weekend in Philly when we went to an outdoor lights display haha…
