Today’s blog post features one of my favorite things to make homemade: hummus! Talia is one of the blog authors on Sister Cooks. I recently discovered her blog and I love how she writes it with her sisters! They have a ton of amazing recipes to share with you all on their blog, so go check them out and say hello
I love Hummus, and love to make my own. It is frugal, and you know exactly what goes in it. I made a super simple garlic hummus this weekend that astounded me, and made me wonder why people spent 4 dollars on a container of hummus when I can make my own for under a dollar. To make this recipe, I simply roasted a head of garlic, poured in a drained can of chickpeas, a teaspoon of salt, 3 tablespoons of tehini, 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, and one teaspoon of cumin. I then pureed it until it was smooth and spreadable. I refrigerated this mixture to allow the flavors to blend, and ate it on bread and vegetables.

So in simple form, here is the recipe:
- 1 head of roasted garlic
- 1 drained can of chickpeas
- 3 tablespoons tehini
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cumin
Puree all ingredients until smooth and enjoy!

I love HUMMUS! Thanks for sharing your recipe. Btw, why did you choose to use vinegar? That’s not normally used in the original hummus recipe. Just curious. Thanks.
Me too. Love hummus. Wondering about the vinegar. But, will try it!
HUMMUS!!! Holy yum. Another fun guest post!!
i just “learned” how to make hummus, not very hard at all and exactly like you said, so much cheaper than buying one of those tiny containers! thanks for the recipe, im going to try yours.
I love hummus and would much rather make my own than spend the ridiculous amount I do every time for convenience sake. Anyway, is there something I can use in place of tahini? I can’t seem to find it plus I would rather not buy anything extra if I don’t have to. Any ideas would be appreciated.
I chose vinegar because I am deathy allergic to citrus, and cannot have lemons. Vinegar is also much cheaper. If you dont want to buy tehini, you can also make the hummus with some sesame oil for a sesame taste, without the tehini.
Gotta try hummus now!
I love making hummus. Roasted garlic sounds like a wonderful idea.

I love hummus!!! I’ll have to try this recipe, the one I use calls for lemon juice where Talia’s calls for apple cider vinegar!
