Perfect Deliciousness

January 24, 2009

Thanks for all the great comments on my last post!  I’m so glad everyone loved the posts this week :)

Today was a perfect day and I got back in the groove of my normal Saturday, which was so nice! I started out on this cold and chilly morning with half a Pure Protein bar on my drive to the gym.

Spinning was great ~ I really missed my gym and especially this great sweaty class!  When I got home, I quickly showered and made up a delicious smoothie concoction:  blueberry oat smoothie!  It included:

  • 3/4 c cooked oatmeal
  • 3/4c frozen blueberries
  • 2 tbsp chocolate whey isolate protein powder
  • 1/3 c almond breeze
  • 1.5 c frozen ice cubes

Blend in the Vita-Mix 5200 and enjoy this yummy blueberry deliciousness!

Around lunchtime we headed to the Philadelphia Convention Center for the Home Show… On the way there I had a Kashi GoLean bar & a clementine.  I know some people don’t like these bars, but for some reason I LOVE them.  I used to be obsessed with them a few years ago – I love the “chew”.

p1241327

The home show was fun, but not what we expected.  Basically it was a lot of hot tubs and basement waterproofing to sum it up.  However, guess what was there that made it worth it?  A Vita-Mix display and demonstration!  The guy at the stand did a demonstration for vegetable soup, fruit juice, and ice cream made with fruit, carrots, and spinach.  I stood there memorized, until Bill gave away my “cover” and told the guy I already had one!  He probably thought I was nuts, but I just rambled on about how much I love the product.  I swear I should work for them :)   I sampled the ice cream, which was super yummy.  I’m hoping to recreate it soon!

p1241329

I also bought a crinkle cut slicer that I can’t wait to use this week :)   Is it weird that I go to a home show and come home with food related products?!

Dinner was at Chili’s since we had a gift card.  I ordered the steak fajitas but got served the fajita pita.  After Bill convinced me to finally say something to the waitress about it, she realized it was a mistake and put in the order for my fajitas :)

If you are all curious, this is what a fajita pita looks like…

I ordered a hot tea because it was chilly!

Then, my real dinner came out:  steak fajitas which were fabulous!  To be honest, the onions and green peppers were my favorite part!

p1241332

Here’s the sides of toppings ~ I used the guac, pico de gallo, and lettuce.

p1241334

Here’s one of my three fajitas (I didn’t use the 4th tortilla):

p1241335

When we were at the Convention Center earlier in the day, we stopped at the Reading Terminal, which is probably my favorite place downtown.  We walked around and got some yummy fruits/veggies, but we also picked up this delicious cannoli from Termini’s, which is literally the best bakery ever.  Bill saved the cannoli for after dinner, I was amazed b/c he isn’t a sweet person, but LOVES cannoli’s.  He saved me a bite which I totally couldn’t resist, despite being stuffed.

Now it’s off to watch the rest of Iron Man from last weekend!  Have a fab night guys :)

Faaaabulous sounding smoothie! I’m jealous of the Vita-Mix!

  3. January 24, 2009 9:50 pm

What a yummy day of eats. I love the ingredients in that smoothie- as soon as we have our blender back, I’m trying it!

Glad you got back into your gym and into spin this am! It is soooooo hard to travel and be without your gym! When I use to travel every week with my first job, I would make a deal with the gym owners wherever I went and pay them a certain fee to join for the duration of my project!

    Have a great night ;)

I love Chili’s, I haven’t been there in ages – my family always ordered the fajitas every time =)

oh and you are going to have to post a pic of your crinkle cut slicer, I have no idea what it is =)

  5. January 24, 2009 9:58 pm

Lindsay, no way!! My mom worked at Termini’s when she was a teenager. I went there two years ago to “tour” it, and yes, it is THE BEST BAKERY ever! So many delicious goodies. Glad you had a good day, girl! Termini’s for evaaa!

  6. January 24, 2009 10:43 pm

that smoothie looks amazing! i never would have thought to put oats in it! great!

  7. January 24, 2009 11:01 pm

hmmm spinach in ice cream!?~ was it tasty?

i havent been to chili’s in forever!

    I heart cannoli’s …

  8. January 24, 2009 11:01 pm

Yum – that smoothie sounds good and filling…but cold. It was freezing here (Nashville) after 60 degree temps yesterday. Crazy!

I love the Kashi Roll Bars – but man, they are a workout for the jaw. They are easier to eat if you warm them first.

Sounds like a fun day – Home Show and dinner out. Hope your Sunday is good as well.

Can’t wait to see your Vita-Mix ice-cream recreation. I use coconut milk, frozen avocado chunks and agave nectar to make coconut ice-cream in mine. Then top with shredded coconut and coconut cream pie Larabar crumbles. AMAZING!

  9. January 24, 2009 11:14 pm

I love Reading Terminal! I used to work at the criminal court nearby and walk during my lunch break. Have you ever had that famous macaroni and cheese?

  10. January 24, 2009 11:41 pm

Mmm fajitas! You’re so cute with your vitamix:) (welcome back!)

  11. January 24, 2009 11:45 pm

What a fun day! I think I’m the same way, in the sense that I feel like I can go anywhere and instantly am drawn to any food-related products. :)

And I’m glad you went to Chili’s for dinner, you just reminded me that we have a Chili’s giftcard to use, too! :)

    Glad you’re back, missed you!!

Here’s something to try- put your Kashi bar on a plate, heat in microwave for 22-33 seconds (I have a thing about numbers I know..)- it is gooey and melty and tastes like dessert, won’t break your jaw!!
Lots of protein bars are 100x better warmed up.

    :-)
    KO

The only thing with those bars – can you actually chew them? Do you have to microwave them first? I literally can’t bite into them.
