Lack Of Time

May 4, 2009

So, how did I do with last week’s Manic workout schedule?

Here was my plan:

  • Monday – 5:30pm spin, 8 min. abs, pushup challenge – DONE!
  • Tuesday – 1 hour long power walk, light strength training – DONE!
  • Wednesday – elliptical for 45 minutes, 8 min. abs, pushup challenge
  • Thursday – spin at 545am, light strength training
  • Friday – elliptical for 30 minutes, leisurely bike ride for 30 minutes, 8 min. abs, pushup challenge
  • Saturday – spin at 8am
  • Sunday – 1 hour bike ride (weather permitting), 8 min. abs, pushup challenge
  • And here’s what I actually did:

  • Monday – 5:30pm spin, 8 min. abs, pushup challenge
  • Tuesday – 1 hour long power walk, light strength training
  • Wednesday – elliptical for 45 minutes, 8 min. abs, pushup challenge
  • Thursday – 20 minute walk
  • Friday – rest day
  • Saturday – spin at 8am
  • Sunday – 30 minute light walk
  • All in all, I feel good because I didn’t follow the workout exactly to plan but I listened to my body and did what felt right.  I also learned to exercise in the morning and felt great initially in the beginning of the week, but then was dragging by the end of the week.  I think because for me to workout in the am I have to start by 5:15 since I have to leave for work by 6:50am… its a bit of a stretch, so we’ll see if I can keep it up!

My plan for this week since I’m traveling is not going to be structured at all.  During this trip we go from 7:15am until 10pm at night every day except for Friday, so I’m going to be exhausted and trying to fit in exercise is going to be tough.  I’m hoping to just focus on eating right and getting in as much activity as possible.  I brought my P90X Kempo X dvd with me to do one or two mornings in my hotel room and I’m hoping to hit the gym in the hotel one or two mornings, we’ll see how I do!

How do you fit in exercise with a jam-packed schedule?  Do you sacrifice sleep or do you focus on better nutrition instead?

I used to sacrifice sleep and wake up ultra early until all those studies came out about how not get getting enough sleep can negate your workout. Go for good nutrition!

I would like to sacrifice sleep. Well, not really…but I often have this plan to get up early and exercise, but simply cannot get myself out of bed until an hour or so after I’d planned.

      Good exercise plan!

I am pretty stubborn about fitting exercise in. I belong to the gym in the tower I work in so it takes me no time to get to the gym. My work is hectic so sometimes I don’t get there until 8pm or later BUT it is such an amazing stress release that it’s so worth it. I would rather work out than sit on the couch for 2 hours watching tv :-)

Ahhh, working out while on business travel. It is my on-going battle. Along with eating healthy while on travel. You know you are eating out the entire time…it just adds up after a week.

Anyway, I typically will hit the treadmill in the hotel gym 2 mornings a week and then I will do a yoga download or a strength DVD in the hotel room. I usually do those in the morning except when I know I will be able to get back to the room at a normal time at night. I always think the people around me (especially below me) must hate me! I’m jumping around at 6:30 in the morning!

      Good luck this week!

I plan on starting to work out in the morning in 2 weeks what a nice chance that will be!

I try to plan out my week in advance and do exercise at home to save transit time.

I would focus on good nutrition and getting in some extra activity (stairs, a walk, stretching, your DVD) when you have a bit of time and energy. Especially with such long hours this week! I would listen to your body and not try to push it to get up super early – that can be just as unhealthy as no exercise or bad eating!

great job! everyone definitely needs a rest day, for sure!

    10. May 4, 2009 4:57 pm

I end up sacrificing sleep because I get home from the gym late and then need some post workout time to unwind. Today is a rest day for me, and I can tell that my body is going to thank me for it.

You did an awesome job!! Good for you! :-)

      checking in on you.
hows the working out on the road going?

I usually try and walk a fine line—not sacrificing too much sleep for working out but MOOOVING a little.
      about half my normal routine.
